News Revenue Hub, Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY partner in support of the Black Media Initiative Bridge Project
The Hub will coach Denver Urban Spectrum, Bloc by Block News in revenue and audience strategy
SAN DIEGO, CA — January 10, 2023 — News Revenue Hub, a trailblazing nonprofit that has helped independent newsrooms raise more than $75 million in volunteer contributions, today announced a new partnership with the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, as part of its Black Media Initiative Bridge Project.
Over 10 weeks, News Revenue Hub will coach Denver Urban Spectrum and Bloc by Block News in revenue and audience strategy as they build their reader revenue programs. Both organizations will accept volunteer donations to support their reporting using the Hub’s contribution management system, News Revenue Engine, while also working with the Hub’s team of experts to implement proven best practices for building trust and loyalty with news consumers. Ongoing support will continue for three months as part of the no-cost program.
“We’re thrilled to be a part of this wonderful new program, and to partner with the Newmark J-School and Upside Analytics,” said Rachel Glickhouse, director of Learning and Labs at News Revenue Hub. “We’re excited to provide our expertise and technology to support these newsrooms as they further develop their reader revenue programs.”
The Bridge Project program provides technology and design support for Black publishers looking to launch an audience revenue campaign.
“Audience revenue for Black media provides a unique opportunity to empower Black voices and stories. By giving readers the chance to directly support Black media, we can create a more equitable system of media production, one in which Black journalists are given the resources they need to tell their stories,” said Cheryl Thompson-Morton, director of the Black Media Initiative.
