News Revenue Hub releases social video training, insights, and strategy support for newsrooms and independent journalists

A little more than a year ago, News Revenue Hub announced Civic Studio: a new initiative designed to equip independent newsrooms with the tools, training, and revenue strategies they need to address changing consumption patterns and expand their reach, especially on video-focused platforms and social media, where audiences are increasingly consuming news today.

Our first year of this program was a learning ground. Alongside 5 newsrooms and with our partners, Local News International, we spent 9 months coaching, training, experimenting, and doing the work of growing, engaging, and monetizing audiences on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

We learned a lot (you can check out a few case studies) and we’re excited to unveil three new services that are now available to any newsroom or independent journalist who is seeking to develop or level up their own video program.

  • An 8-week social video bootcamp, designed for
    • Newsrooms and creators who are ready to launch a video program and want to build on best practices and hands-on training
    • Teams with a basic video program who want to sharpen their approach
    • Organizations with new hires who need training and skills development for social video
  • An analytics & insights service providing ongoing, hands-on support pulling and interpreting your video performance data — so your team can spend less time in spreadsheets and more time acting on what the data shows. This support is designed for
    • Organizations that want to offload the time-consuming work of video data collection to buy back time for other priorities
    • Those who value an outside perspective on strategy and trends from time to time but mostly are comfortable working independently
  • Video & social audience consulting, designed for
    • Organizations with an existing video strategy and team who want outside expertise to help level up. You should have foundational video skills already in place — either from our Bootcamp or at least a year of building and executing a multi-platform video strategy independently.

All of these services are based on our efforts from the past year and what we saw drive meaningful knowledge growth and results for our program participants. We’re excited to now be able to offer this support more broadly.

“Social video has been and will continue to be an essential component of any newsroom’s or creator’s strategy for reaching new audiences and deepening engagement,” said News Revenue Hub’s VP of Consulting, Abbey Gingras. “What we learned in year one is that there is a hunger for best practices and a need for a partner to help newsrooms identify what works and what doesn’t. Video work requires investment, and it’s essential to understand if and how that investment is paying off.”

Thanks to funding from the Google News Initiative and the John and Florence Newman Family Foundation, these services are being offered at a discounted rate through the rest of 2026 for anyone who signs up before the end of the year.

If you’re interested in learning more or signing up for one of these services, please fill out this form and we will follow up with more detailed information, including pricing.
