News Revenue Hub and Indiegraf Announce Strategic Partnership to Strengthen Infrastructure for Independent Media Infrastructure
Partnership brings together best-in-class revenue strategy and technology in one of the most significant collaborations between journalism support organizations to date
Independent news organizations increasingly need integrated technology, revenue strategy and operational support — not a fragmented ecosystem of disconnected vendors. Today, News Revenue Hub, a nonprofit that has helped independent news organizations raise more than $174 million, announced a landmark strategic partnership with technology company Indiegraf designed to bring those capabilities together under a coordinated model for serving independent publishers.
As the first step in the partnership, Indiegraf will assume responsibility for development and operations of the NRH technology stack, including the RevEngine contributions management platform. Originally developed by News Revenue Hub, RevEngine generated $25 million in contributions last year alone and is currently utilized by more than 200 independent newsrooms across North America.
Through the partnership, Indiegraf and News Revenue Hub will collaborate closely on their shared technology, consulting, marketing and customer success efforts to meet the evolving revenue needs of publishers. News Revenue Hub will remain an independent organization, deepening its investment in consulting, strategy, fractional support and data benchmarking, while Indiegraf expands its role as a leading technology provider serving independent local media.
This partnership reflects a broader trend toward strategic collaboration across the news industry, as both newsrooms and the organizations that support them look for ways to reduce duplication, strengthen coordination, and build more sustainable infrastructure. The partnership between News Revenue Hub and Indiegraf underscores the value of organizations choosing partnership and specialization over competition.
For independent news organizations, the outcome is more integrated infrastructure, fewer duplicative tools, and stronger alignment between technology and strategy — leading to more successful revenue programs and greater long-term sustainability.
“We built RevEngine to make it easy for people to financially support news organizations they value and trust,” said Mary Walter-Brown, CEO of News Revenue Hub. “Indiegraf shares our commitment to supporting independent publishers, and we’re excited to see the platform continue to evolve through this partnership with a company whose core focus is building smart, accessible technology solutions for news organizations.”
For News Revenue Hub, this partnership marks a strategic step forward — sharpening its focus on helping news organizations build durable, integrated revenue systems. The organization has expanded its consulting beyond membership to include strategies for major donors, advertising and sponsorships. It’s also investing further in production and operational support for resource-strapped newsrooms. Salesforce will remain the foundation of the Hub’s work with publishers, helping them manage and grow all of their revenue streams within one cohesive system.
News Revenue Hub is also expanding its Data Cooperative, giving publishers the ability to benchmark performance and make smarter, faster decisions across reader revenue, philanthropy, advertising, sponsorships, and more.
As part of the transition, Daniel Craigmile, News Revenue Hub’s CTO/CIO and the original architect of RevEngine, joins the Indiegraf team to guide the platform’s continued development and ensure strong alignment between the two organizations.
Founded in 2020 by sisters Erin Millar and Caitlin Havlak, Indiegraf provides an integrated suite of publishing tools to help independent publishers launch, grow, and sustain their businesses. The platform includes website management, email marketing, audience engagement tools, and advertising infrastructure. The addition of RevEngine strengthens Indiegraf’s ability to support reader revenue and fundraising for independent publishers.
In the past year, Indiegraf has expanded its publishing ecosystem through the acquisitions of Hearken and Stylebot. Now, by partnering with News Revenue Hub, Indiegraf will provide greater support around audience engagement, editorial workflow, and reader revenue. Each of these organizations was founded by women and built with a focus on long-term newsroom sustainability. Together, these tools offer independent publishers a more cohesive and flexible infrastructure to support their growth.
“We’ve heard loud and clear from publishers that they’re exhausted by a fragmented ecosystem of tools and services,” said Erin Millar, CEO of Indiegraf. “This partnership is a direct response to that reality. By partnering to combine best-in-class technology with best-in-class strategy, we’re creating a reality where publishers don’t have to stitch together solutions on their own.”
“Tools alone aren’t enough,” Millar added. “News organizations need strong strategy and execution to succeed. News Revenue Hub is the best in the business at that work, which is why we’re partnering to make their services available to all Indiegraf publishers.”
Both organizations will continue working closely together to support their shared clients and ensure the technology evolves alongside the needs of independent publishers. By combining Indiegraf’s technology infrastructure with News Revenue Hub’s strategic and operational expertise, the partnership is designed to give independent publishers stronger tools and systems to build sustainable, consumer-supported news organizations.
This partnership comes at a critical moment for independent media, as news organizations face mounting financial, technological, and political pressures — including funding declines, threats to press freedom, platform shifts, and the emergence of AI. Both organizations see this collaboration as part of a broader effort to build stronger, more coordinated infrastructure to support the future of local news.
