Diversity Report
The News Revenue Hub strives to be a workplace where employees feel safe and heard when discussing topics such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. To achieve this, we must cultivate an institution of belonging. Such an institution invites diverse voices to the table and listens to them as a core value. Our goal is to reflect a staff and board demographic makeup that is roughly 55% white and 45% Black, indigenous and people of color (BIPOC). As we work toward our long-term goals, we know progress isn't always linear. We publish our reports here because we're committed to transparency in our efforts. The Hub intends to run a demographics survey each year with our staff and our board. Participation is optional. We did not conduct a demographics survey in 2024, but we have performed a diversity analysis for 2022 and 2023. In 2025 our staff size was 22. 18 staff members took our demographics survey. Among those who took the survey, 72% self-identified as white and 33% as people of color, including people who identified as both, Hispanic or LatinX, Black or African American, and Asian, Asian American, or East Asian. (One staff member declined to self-identify in the survey). 61% of our surveyed staff identify as female or women and 6% identify as nonbinary. 22% of surveyed staff identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and 22% identify as living with a disability. No members of our surveyed staff identify as veterans, American Indian and Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, Arab, Middle Eastern or North African, or South Asian. The current demographics reflect a survey that was distributed in Q1 2025. In comparison to previous years, our 2025 demographics survey was conducted anonymously, so we are not analyzing staff demographics by position. In 2023, our staff of 20 was 80% white and 20% people of color, including people who identify as Hispanic or LatinX, Black or African American, and Asian, Asian American, or East Asian. Among managers, 82% are white and 16% people of color. 55% of our staff, including managers, identify as women and 5% identify as nonbinary. 15% identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and 5% identify as living with a disability. No members of our staff identify as veterans, American Indian and Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander. In 2022, the first year we conducted this survey, our staff of 16 was 63% white and 37% people of color, including people who identify as Hispanic or LatinX, Black or African American, and Asian, Asian American, or East Asian. Among managers, 72% were white and 28% people of color. 68% of our staff, including managers, identified as women. 19% identified as members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and 12% identified as living with a disability. No members of our staff identified as veterans, American Indian and Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander. Our board of directors is 40% white and 60% people of color, including members who identify as Asian, Asian American, or East Asian. Two members of our board identify as a woman, and three identify as men. None of our board members identify as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. No members of our board identify as living with a disability, veterans, American Indian and Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander.
