Guardian US joins the Hub, boosting email initiatives and philanthropic gifts
We are pleased to announce that Guardian US, an esteemed news organization committed to independent journalism, is joining the News Revenue Hub to further its efforts to maximize reader donations and develop a high-dollar gift program.
In October 2022, Steve Sachs became the new managing director of Guardian US, the American branch of The Guardian. Sachs, who has more than 20 years of business and leadership experience at for-profit and nonprofit digital media companies, is responsible for overseeing Guardian US’ strategic direction and overall growth while ensuring continued financial support for its journalistic mission.
Sachs shared that Guardian US is eager to leverage the Hub’s extensive expertise in utilizing email campaigns to build audience support and donations.
“The Guardian is very good at using our website and app to generate audience contributions, but we’re just starting to use email more extensively. We’re excited to have the Hub help us build our strategy and tactics for our email initiatives,” he explained.
In addition to strengthening their email program, Guardian US is planning to establish a high-dollar gift initiative to cultivate larger donations exceeding $1,000. “We’re excited to work with the Hub on building that program,” Sachs said.
Mary Walter-Brown, founder and CEO of the News Revenue Hub, said she’s looking forward to the opportunity to grow and learn alongside Guardian US — and to share those lessons with other Hub clients. “We’re thrilled for Guardian US to become an active member of the Hub community,” she said. “By being part of the Hub, our member newsrooms get to not only share their insights, but learn from their peers.”
Sachs agreed. “While we’re big, we have a lot of ways we can grow, and the newsrooms that are Hub members do great work that we can learn from,” he said.
“We’re truly honored to be working with the Guardian,” Walter-Brown added. “It’s great to see an organization of their stature to be willing to be experimental in building reader support. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together.”
